Hamleys is named after William Hamley, who founded a toy shop called "Noah's Ark" at High Holborn in London in 1760. A branch in Regent Street was opened in 1881,but the Holburn branch was destroyed by fire in 1901 and was relocated from 231 to 86–87 High Holborn. The business has survived in various forms to the present day, and at one time was the largest toy shop in the world. Hamleys moved to its current Regent Street premises in 1981. In fact Hamleys was there 11 years before Eros statue in Piccadilly Circus at the end of Regents Street.

So great had the shop's reputation become by the end of Queen Vicoria's reign, that Jean Jaques and Sons asked if they could launch their new 'Gossima' exclusively through Hamleys. The public immediately took to the game which they christened 'ping pong' after the noise made by the bouncing of its hollow white celluloid ball. Not until 1921 did it officially become Table Tennis. Not many people know that!

Even being bombed five times in the blitz did not stop Hamleys. The staff wearing tin hats served at the front door, rushing in to collect the toys, and hand them over at the door. After the War it was business as usual; the Festival of Britain in 1951 brought a Grand Doll’s Salon as well as a vast model railway to hypnotise children of any age.

Arc 170 Easykit Pocket In support of Anakin and Obi-Wan in the Battle of Coruscant, the two Jedi are escorted by a squadron of ARC-170 fighters (aggressive reconnaissance fighters). Absolutely loyal to the Republic, the clone pilots have the mission of diverting the Trade Federations fighters and clearing the way for the Jedi. Darth Vader Easykit Pocket Darth Vader's TIE Advanced. During the Battle of Yarvin, in Star Wars IV: A New Hope, faced with a guerrilla style attack by the Rebel Starfighters, the Empire trusted the seemingly invincible Death Star's technological superiority to triumph. With the Death Star's arsenal unable to hit the nimble Starfighters, Darth Vader took command of a squadron of TIE Interceptors. Vader used the TIE Fighter prototype as the basis for the terrifyingly effective TIE Interceptors. Unlike all other TIE Fighters, this prototype has a deflector shield generator and a simple hyperdrive. Vader's own customised fighter, the TIE Advanced is armed with heavy twin blaster cannons on fixed mounts, but has no life support systems. X Wing Easykit Pocket Fans of Star Wars can now be involved in the epic saga, by building the most important rebel alliance fighter and one of the most powerful single-seat spaceships ever produced. Luke Skywalker's fighter of choice, it was used by the young Jedi to destroy the first Death Star in the Battle of Yavin. The T-65 X-wing Fighter owes its name to its double wings, one above the other, that form an X in combat in order to increase the firing range of the pilot. Sherman Firefly Model 03211 1:76 In the context of war aid, the British received Sherman tanks from the USA during the Second World War. The turrets were modified to allow them to take the heavy 17-pound (about 90mm) anti-tank and artillery gun. The Sherman Firefly, deployed only by the British, was a hybrid of the Americans many manufacturing series and had the most powerful gun of all manufacturing runs. With armour-piercing ammunition, the fire of the heavy German tanks could now be countered earlier and the losses significantly reduced. This 32.7 tonne tank was introduced in 1943 and immediately incorporated into the armoured units. The tank was very successful, although it could not be produced in large numbers. The 5 man crew had an ammunition stock of 77 rounds and the 425 horsepower Chrysler engine could accelerate the Firefly up to 40 kph. Model details: 1:76 scale, contains 54 parts, 104 mm long. Vietcong Model Soldiers Vietcong is the American expression for the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam which, as a communist guerrilla organisation, led the armed resistance to the South Vietnamese regime during the Vietnam War. In 1957 the Vietcong, with the support of North Vietnam, started their guerrilla actions against the regime and also against US military installations. British Infantry WWII Model 1:72 02523 On 6th June 1944, in Operation Overlord, the Allies landed in Normandy. These included British infantry regiments that, in addition to the traditional 1937 webbing, also had new equipment such as the Mk III helmet and battle jerkin. Armed with the Sten submachine gun, the no. 4 Mk I rifle, the PIAT anti-tank weapon, the Bren machine-gun and handy grenade launchers, forced the defenders out of the landing zones Juno, Sword and Gold. Longbow Apache Helicopter Model Kit The AH-64D Longbow Apache is currently the most advanced, the most versatile and the most powerfully armed combat helicopter in the world. Sd Kfz 234-2 Puma Tank The Puma belonged to a whole family of 8-wheeled vehicles that was developed by the Germans towards the end of the Second World War. This pioneering project became the model for many wheeled tanks all around the world. In total just 100 vehicles were delivered by Puma, so little has survived to tell us about possible painting and markings. This vehicle with a speed approaching 90 kph was very good across country although it weighed almost 12 tonnes. The 5cm L-60 gun was known from and tried and tested in the Panzer III and it could carry 55 rounds of ammunition. This vehicle, built by Bssing-NAG, was equipped with an air-cooled 12-cylinder Tatra diesel engine that had a 210 horsepower output. In case of emergencies this vehicle came ready equipped with smoke dischargers to allow it to disappear from the enemys view. Construct your own Puma Tank with this 1:76 scale model kit from Revell. 	German Paratroopers At the start of World War II the German parachute fighter units played a major part in the initial successes of the German armed forces. Tornado IDS The Tornado was developed and built as a two-seat multi-role combat aircraft by Great Britain, Italy and Germany in collaboration. The Tornado IDS was supplied from 1981 onwards to the German air force and navy flying units. In total the air force received 212 and the navy 112 of the Tornado IDS. Us Army Troops Vietnam War After the USA removed in 1955 France as a protective power in Vietnam, an authoritarian regime was created in Sdvietnam with American help. As a result the South-Vietnamese Vietkong began the opposition by guerrilla warfare actions against the regime and US facilities. The war escalated in 1965 and bombardments followed by the Americans, as well as the application from up to 536,100 soldiers.
